Social Media News Release

Realwire defines a Social media news release as ” a press release format designed for the online media world. The press release was written with just the “press” in mind, but in the online world your story needs to be told in a format that is relevant to a wide variety of people – journalists, bloggers, publishers and the public at large.” These releases were established by major electronic distribution services like Business Wire, PR Wire, and market wire. Over the years SMNR’s have grown in popularity, which has been incorporated into the SMR. An SMR includes social media tags so the content can be circulated throughout different bookmarking sites such as Digg and Technorati. SMR’s include photos, videos, and audio. Hyperlinks are included into the text and links are provided to other social media networking sites. By incorporating these into the news releases, you grab the consumers attention by using creativity.  It allows you to communicate your message more effectively online.  You have the basics of a news release as far as facts and quotes in addition to the multi-media aspect of it. The concept behind SMNR’s got started when a journalist wrote on their blog going against normal press releases. The different media can help make the news releases have more effects and saves the reader time by giving them information that is at their fingertips.

Wow this post is really thorough and researched! It really is amazing how technology and news articles have developed just over the last few years. I went looking for news reports and I found myself looking at professional’s blogs over and over again. It seems like news is heading in an interesting direction and I wonder how much faster we could possible receive news other than twitter. Do you think there will be faster ways to access news in the next year or two?
